My dad hired a tour guide for our first full day in Edinburgh to show us some of the better preserved Abbeys (churches). This was a scenic point on the way to our first Abbey. |
Another view from the scenic point. |

Kelso Abbey was almost right in the heart of town, it was odd turning a corner and then it was right in front of you. There isn't much of it left but you get a good idea as of to it's size. |

Jedburgh Abbey, here are two shots of a model put together to give you an idea of what it looked like at it's time of completion. |

You’ll notice that some of the arches have different shapes. Our guide told us that these Abbeys would take so long to build that the influence on the architecture would change over time and be implemented in the later stages of the construction. The building of the Abbey’s always began with the east wing. |

Here you can see my dad and our tour guide; it gives you a perspective as of to how massive this building is. |

If you saw the movie Braveheart, you may remember the name Robert the Bruce. He was the king who tricked William Wallace (Mel Gibson) and in the end took up Wallace’s fight. On his deathbed Robert the Bruce ordered that his heart be cut from his body and taken to the holy land and here is where it lies. |
